1,153 people injured in Eid animal sacrifices in Istanbul
Some 1,153 people spent the first day of Eid al-Adha at the emergency wards of Istanbul hospitals after cutting themselves or suffering other injuries while sacrificing agitated sheep and other animals. Seven of these “amateur butchers" were heavily injured and were operated on, Anadolu Agency said.

Some 1,153 people in Istanbul sustained injuries while killing animals on the first day of Eid al-Adha, the Muslim Feast of Sacrifice, on July 31, state-run Anadolu Agency reported.
Eidal-Adha is a four-day celebration in which many Muslims sacrifice ananimal and distribute its meat: one-third for the family, one-thirdfor relatives and one-third for the poor.
Althoughauthorities have provided special areas for professional butchers,some Turks choose to kill the sheep and cows themselves, which oftentriggers an avalanche of accidents.
Accordingto Anadolu Agency, 1,153 people were treated on July 31 at Istanbulhospitals' emergency units suffering from cuts.
Mostof the injured have been already discharged from the hospital,whereas seven heavily injured people have been operated on.
