The main opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP) will investigate the responsibilities of four of its municipalities for the earthquake preparation and destruction.

The party will investigate Hatay Metropolitan Municipality, and Hatay’s Arsuz, Defne, and Samandağ district municipalities as per the instruction of CHP leader Kılıçdaroğlu.

A delegation of experts on the subject under CHP General Secretary Selin Sayek Böke and Deputy Chair Seyit Torun will investigate the municipalities in question.

For the last couple of days, the criticism mounts on Lütfü Savaş, who has been Mayor of Hatay province since 2014 and was Mayor of Hatay’s Antakya district between 2009-2014, as Hatay became one of the most affected provinces among 11 others in the Feb. 6 earthquakes.

In response to criticisms, Savaş said "In such a disaster, of course, everyone who was negligent will be held accountable, I will never let this go, first as a Hatay native and then as the mayor."
