COVID-19 cases double in southern Antalya and Hatay as intensive care unit occupancy rises

COVID-19 cases have increased by 100 percent over the past week in the southern province of Hatay and the Mediterranean tourist destination, Antalya, Turkish Health Minister Fahrettin Koca said on Dec. 3.
After meeting with the provincial health directors of these locations, Health Minister Koca noted that intensive care unit occupancy rates are now above 70 percent in both Antalya and Hatay.
"In the last week, Hatay's cases increased by 100 percent, and the intensive care unit occupancy rate is 70 percent; the number of cases in Antalya rose by 100 percent, and the intensive care unit occupancy rate is 71 percent," Koca said in a tweet.
Meanwhile, the Black Sea province of Trabzon has seen a 50 percent spike in the number of COVID-19 cases over the past week, and their intensive care unit occupancy rate is at 75 percent.
Lastly, the southeastern province of Diyarbakır has observed a steady rise in the number of cases over the past week resulting in a 70 percent occupancy rate of their intensive care units.
