Erdoğan challenges main opposition leader to prove claims or quit
President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has slammed CHP leader Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu and journalist Rahmi Turan over an alleged meeting, saying that the main opposition leader should quit his post if he can't prove his claims. President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has challenged main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) leader Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu to prove his claims regarding a meeting in the Presidential Palace, while urging him to quit if he can't do so.
"Lies haven't entered our lives, but their whole lives are lies," Erdoğan said in a rally in the western province of İzmir on Nov. 22.
An alleged meeting between Erdoğan and a mysterious CHP politician has become one of the main subjects of debate in Turkey following a column by daily Sözcü journalist Rahmi Turan.
Erdoğan reportedly encouraged the CHP politician to replace Kılıçdaroğlu "for the good of the country" - a claim that drew ire from both parties in question.
During his speech, Erdoğan said that he's putting forward his presidency, challenging Kılıçdaroğlu to do the same if he can't prove that the meeting took place.
The President also slammed Turan, saying that he is "nowhere to be found."
