President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has responded to a hardcore fan's intense display of affection during a congress of the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) by saying, "I believe in your love."

The man, who was later revealed to be an AKP member, started doing exaggerated gestures while Erdoğan was speaking in the Aegean province of İzmir on Feb. 22.

Ignoring the baffled looks of the audience, the man started blowing kisses to Erdoğan while crying.

"I love you. OK, I love you. I believe in your love," Erdoğan told the man, who at one point started kissing his fists.
