Five tons of fish consumed in anchovy festival in Istanbul

In an anchovy festival held by Istanbul’s Sancaktepe Municipality, five tons of fish were consumed.

Istanbul’s Sancaktepe district Municipality on Feb. 18 held its annual Traditional Anchovy Festival at Samandıra Square.

Five tons of fish were consumed by the visitors in the festival, according to reporting by the Demirören News Agency.

The festival saw the attendance of Sancaktepe Mayor Şeyma Döğücü, from the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP), and Istanbul Governor Davut Gül.

“Today is anchovy day. We have an anchovy festival. We are sharing our fish with all our fellow citizens of Sancaktepe. We will eat tons of fish together in Sancaktepe today. There are grilled and pan-fried fish. These are the lambs of the sea. We wish everyone bon appetit,” Döğücü said.
