ISIS suspect sought by US detained in Istanbul

An ISIS suspect named Mustafa Abdulvahap Mahmut who was also being sought by the United States has been detained in Istanbul's Esenyurt district, Deutsche Welle reported on May 24. Mahmut, an explosive specialist, was reportedly planning to undertake an attack in Turkey.

An ISIS suspect named Mustafa Abdulvahap Mahmut who was also being sought by the United States has been detained in Istanbul's Esenyurt district, Deutsche Welle reported on May 24. 

The explosives specialist was reported to be born in 1999 and joined ISIS in Syria where he learned about the construction of various types of bombs.

Mahmut was reportedly detained with three other collaborators as a result of joint efforts between American and Turkish intelligence units, as the suspect was noted to have participated in assaults on the U.S.

Mahmut was arrested immediately after his detention and faces up to 39 years in prison for his charges, while his accomplices are looking at 15 years each.
