Istanbul Airport ranks busiest in Europe as COVID-19 numbers in Turkey surge to record levels
Istanbul Airport ranked the busiest in Europe between Nov. 28 and Dev. 4, according to the European Organisation for the Safety of Air Navigation (EUROCONTROL). The week in question observed record COVID-19 numbers in Turkey, as well as nationwide curfews to curb the spread of the virus.

Istanbul Airport was the busiest in all of Europe between Nov. 28 and Dec. 4, according to the European Organisation for the Safety of Air Navigation (EUROCONTROL).
During the week in question, Turkey broke new records almost every day with its number of COVID-19 fatalities and new diagnoses, while more than 400 flights per day were being operated in and out of Istanbul Airport.
Some 471 flights landed in and took off from Istanbul Airport on Nov. 28, 542 on Nov. 29, and 496 on Nov. 30, EUROCONTROL reported.
Meanwhile, Turkey implemented partial curfews during this same week, alongside a nationwide lockdown on Dec. 5 and Dec. 6.
