Massive forest fire erupts in Turkey's south
A massive forest fire has erupted in the Kozan district of the southern province of Adana, prompting authorities to evacuate the residents of the area. Agriculture and Forestry Minister Bekir Pakdemirli said on Aug. 24 that two planes, 19 helicopters, 35 heavy machinery and 750 personnel are involved in fire extinguishing efforts.

A massive forest fire has erupted in the Kozan district of the southern province of Adana, prompting authorities to evacuate the residents of the area.
The fire, which broke out on Aug. 23, caused damage in an area of 200 hectares.
Agriculture and Forestry Minister Bekir Pakdemirli said on Aug. 24 that two planes, 19 helicopters, 35 heavy machinery and 750 personnel are involved in fire extinguishing efforts.
Six villages and 800 residences were evacuated and a number of houses in the area were burned.
Some of those evacuated were placed in dormitories by the Adana Governor's Office.
The cause of the fire will be determined after extinguishing efforts are completed, Pakdemirli said, adding that authorities are looking into whether the fire was started intentionally.
