Netflix 'blocked' on campus of Turkish parliament

Streaming platform Netflix became unavailable on Turkish parliament's campus a day after President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said he wanted to shut down or restrict access to the site. Parliament staff reported that they encountered an error message when trying to access its website.

Access to streaming platform Netflix was reportedly banned on the campus of Turkish parliament, a day after President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said he wanted to shut or control social media platforms, including Netflix.

Parliament staff reported that they encountered an error message that read, "This site can't be reached. It took too long for [Netflix] to respond" when they tried accessing the platform, Anka News Agency reported on July 2.

While officials from the Presidential Communications Directorate said that all but work-related websites were banned on campus, employees were able to access social media and entertainment platforms like YouTube, Twitter and Instagram.
