A presidential decree allowed the construction of hotels, recreational areas and parking lots in the Aegean Coast's prime coastal district of Datça, the Official Gazette reported on April 7.
The decree allowed for construction on 213 lots and one parcel of land in Datça, the daily Cumhuriyet reported, noting that ownership of said deeds belonged to the Treasury.
The presidential decree served to approve re-zoning by Turkey's Directorate General of Privatization, essentially handing over public assets to private investors.
Extravagant tenders assigned to pro-government private companies is a common method of redistributing wealth for the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP), with construction serving as the most common tool.
Located adjacent to Cennetköy, "Paradise Village" in Turkish, the area opened up to construction is prime real estate on the Aegean Riviera, locals noted.
