Snow expected in Istanbul towards weekend

Authorities have stated that Istanbul would be hit by snowfall starting on Jan. 12.

The Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB)’s Disaster Coordination Center (AKOM) has notified that the metropolis would be hit by sleet and snowfall on Jan. 12 and 13.

In a statement, the center said the Jan. 12 noon would see sleet in the city centers, light snow in the high-altitudes. The light snow will move towards the city centers as of Friday evening.

On Jan. 13, partly cloudy and snowy weather is expected again, the center added.

The snowfall will arrive in Istanbul after a long period of spring-like weather in the metropolis.
