Social media influencer detained for flushing Turkish money down toilet

Trans social media figure Mika Can Raun was detained over flushing 100 Turkish liras down the toilet in a TikTok video. Raun was released shortly afterwards under judicial control measures.

Cyber crime department of the Turkish police on Oct. 24 detained trans social media influencer Mika Can Raun because of one of her TikTok video on charge of “insulting the signs of the sovereignty of the state.” In the video, Raun throws a 100 Turkish lira bill to the toilet and flushes it.

An Istanbul court decided to release Raun under judicial control measures shortly after her detention.

Some social media users slammed Raun over her video for allegedly “insulting” the Turkish lira.
