Southeast Turkey vendors imitate 'COVID-19 remedy' spice with wood shavings

A type of unique red pepper produced in the southeastern province of Şanlıurfa named isot has been said to prevent anyone who eats it from contracting COVID-19, prompting vendors to imitate it with colored wood shavings.
"This sort of isot doesn't only hurt the consumer's budget, but also their health. Isot should be bought from well-known vendors," said business owner Hüseyin Korkmaz.
Isot has a special smell that distinguishes it and a unique sweet taste that allows it to be differentiated from other spices, vendors say.
"They make wood shavings look like isot with food dye. Customers should check for color, smell, and oil while buying isot," Korkmaz said.
