Turkey puts 39 residential areas under quarantine against coronavirus
Turkey's Interior Ministry has announced that 39 residential areas in 18 provinces were put under quarantine in a bid to prevent the spread of the highly contagious coronavirus (COVID-19). Quarantines are underway in one town, six neighborhoods, 28 villages and four hamlets, the ministry said.

Turkey has placed 39 residential areas in 18 provinces under quarantine as of March 30 to contain the spread of the coronavirus, which has killed 131 people in the country.
Quarantines are underway in one town, six neighborhoods, 28 villages and four hamlets, the Interior Ministry said in a statement after Turkey's official number of confirmed cases leapt by 1,815 to 9,217.
"The quarantines are precautionary. They aim to protect our citizens from coronavirus and ensure social isolation in these residential areas," the ministry said in a statement.
In the latest measures to curb the spread of the virus, Turkey halted inter-city trains and limited domestic flights on March 29.
President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan is expected to address the nation on March 30 following a video conference meeting with his cabinet of ministers.
