Turkey's Ankara University accomplishes first step toward COVID-19 vaccine

Ankara University Biotechnology Institute Director Aykut Özkul has succeeded in isolating the COVID-19 virus, which is the first step to create a vaccine and medication against it. “This is just the beginning. Ankara University Biotechnology Institute Director Prof. Aykut Özkul has succeeded in isolating the COVID-19 virus, which is the first step to create a vaccine and medication against it, the university announced April 5.

“This is just the beginning. We are determined and ambitious. A Turkish scientist has isolated the virus!” said the biotechnology institute in a tweet April 5. 

Ankara Mayor Mansur Yavaş also encouraged the Ankara University team in a tweet. 

“Inshallah we’re expecting good news from Ankara soon,” Yavaş said.
