Fatih Nurullah, the leader of a Turkish Islamist cult group named “Uşşaki,” has been arrested on charges of sexually assaulting a 12-year-old girl, OdaTV reported on Sept. 1.

Nurullah was reportedly sent to the Ferizli Prison in the northern province of Sakarya.

The sexual assault came out to light after the 12-year-old spoke of the incident to her mother. She said that she was repeatedly sexually assaulted by Nurullah. The child's family then filed a complaint to the authorities, as a result of which the gendarmerie raided the cult's premises on Aug. 27.

Following his testimony at the prosecutor's office, Nurullah was arrested by a court order. Meanwhile, the prosecutors issued a “confidentiality order” for the case.

This is not the first time that Nurullah is facing accusations of child molestation. OdaTV said that the newest case file includes a telephone recording in which Nurullah partially confessed his crime.

Following Nurullah's detention, Turkish authorities on Aug. 29 temporarily shut down the Uşşaki cult's building in Sakarya as part of coronavirus measures.
