The Turkish Medical Association will stage a five-day lights-off protest starting on Nov. 11 to draw attention to the struggles experienced by health workers during the pandemic, urging everyone to turn their lights on and off at 9 p.m. each night.
"A total of 65 physicians and 145 health workers have died from COVID-19 in Turkey so far," the Diyarbakır Medical Chamber noted in support of the protest.
The medical chamber said that the government failed to take the necessary precautions to fight the pandemic, and left health workers to bear the burden, which caused widespread burnout among the professionals.
The protest will last five days, calling for fair compensation for health workers, the chamber added.
