A deputy from the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) has shared a picture of a man beaten by MHP supporters, as he also bragged about the incident.

A group of ultra-nationalist Turks, who identify themselves as "Ülkücü," attacked İsrafil Kumbasar over a post he shared on Facebook that wished for MHP leader Devlet Bahçeli to be infected by coronavirus.

A footage shared on Twitter showed a group attacking Kumbasar and beating him on the street.

MHP Group Deputy Chair Erkan Akçay shared a graphic picture of Kumbasar's face later in the day.

"Who is this handsome man?" Akçay asked sarcastically in his Twitter post.

"They say that his test for being undignified was positive," he also said.

MHP is a staunch ally of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP).

While MHP supporters praised the Ülkücü group for beating the man, many social media users slammed Akçay for praising a crime and criminals.

Main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) deputy Sezgin Tanrıkulu was among those criticized Akçay, as he asked the interior and justice ministries whether they will say anything about Akçay's post.
