Turkish police detain 15 during George Floyd protest in front of US embassy

Police detained some 15 people at an Ankara protest condemning the police killing of black Minneapolis resident George Floyd. The protesters chanted some of Floyd's last words as he was suffocated to death by the officer, "Please, I can't breathe!"

Police detained some 15 protesters in a June 12 Ankara protest condemning the brutal police killing of Minneapolis resident George Floyd, daily BirGün reported.

The video footage of Floyd's May 25 killing by a police officer was met with worldwide support for the Black Lives Matter cause with protests around the world, discussion of police departments' dismantling and an examination of systemic racism not just in the United States, but around the world.

Protesters carry signs that read "All power to the people," "Racism is more dangerous than the virus," and "No justice, no peace!"

Protesters in front of the U.S. embassy in Ankara echoed Floyd's last words "Please, I can't breathe!" that he said as he was suffocated by an officer and which have quickly become a symbol of police violence.

"Racism, sexism, virus, unemployment, poverty and capitalism. Please, we can't breathe!" said members of People's Houses (Halkevleri).
