Ankara Governor's Office bans peace rally against racism

The Ankara Governor's Office banned a peace rally that was going to be held in the capital to honor Sep. 1 World Peace Day. Organized by the civil rights platform Ankara Labor and Democracy Forces, the rally was announced with the motto "Peace against war, equality against racism."

The Ankara Governor's Office banned a peace rally in the capital that would be held to commemorate September 1 World Peace Day, organized by civil rights platform Ankara Labor and Democracy Forces.

Announced with the motto "Peace against war, equality against racism," the rally was originally scheduled for 5.30 p.m. in Anıtpark.

The governor's office attempted to reschedule the event for 3 p.m., which is not only the hottest time of day, but also within work hours, the platform noted, saying that the move was an effective ban.

The civil rights platform said that they would hold a press conference at 6.30 p.m. in protest, and moved the event to the Ankara Train Station Square Peace Monument, the site of the 2015 explosion that claimed more than a hundred lives.
