Number of daily COVID-19 diagnoses surges around Turkey

Turkey's COVID-19 Science Committee urged citizens to continue to follow preventative measures as the number of daily COVID-19 diagnoses has been on the rise since the start of the "normalization" process. The northern province of Gümüşhane has the highest fatality rate in Turkey with 12.4 percent, while the southeastern border town of Kilis has the lowest with 0.33 percent.

Turkey's COVID-19 Science Committee noted on June 17 that citizens should continue to adhere to existing measures as the number of new diagnoses increase nationwide following the start of the "normalization" process on June 1.

The Health Ministry revealed that there are some 2,151 COVID-19 cases per every million people, ranking 51st in the world in terms of the intensity of patients.

Meanwhile, the fatality rate in Turkey is at 2.67 percent, 81st in the world, the Health Ministry said.

The hospitalization rate of patients also dropped by about 40 percent, reaching 9.4 percent, while the average time a patient spends in the hospital dropped to 2.7 days from 18.2 days.

The average number of new daily cases in Ankara in the last month was 127.

The average number of new daily cases in the last week hiked to 155.

The average number of new daily cases in the last three days rose further to 177.

Istanbul

The average number of new daily cases in Istanbul in the last month was 653.

This number spiked to above 700 on June 17.

Izmir

The average number of new daily cases in Izmir in the last month was 32.

The average number of new daily cases in the last week increased slightly to 38, dropping back to 34 in the last three days.

This number surpassed 100 on June 17, displaying a sharp incline in the province's daily new diagnoses.
