Turkish opposition Good (İYİ) Party leader Meral Akşener has said that she and her husband tested negative for coronavirus after a maid in their house got infected with the highly contagious virus.
"My maid working in the house tested positive for coronavirus. She is in a good condition and is under quarantine at her own house," Akşener told daily Sözcü on April 6.Opposition leader Akşener donates salary to Istanbul, Ankara mayors' coronavirus fight
"We also underwent tests and the results were negative. We were really nervous, but we are fine," she said.
Akşener noted that in addition to her, the team that she works closely also underwent tests in the capital Ankara and their results were also negative.
"I've been mostly home since then," she said, adding that she couldn't see her newborn granddaughter Ayda because of the pandemic.
Akşener also criticized the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) for not making enough preparations against the pandemic.
"The government takes steps when needed and has a road map that aims to repair the damage done rather than preventing the pandemic," she said.
