Ancient artifacts from Topkapı Palace will be moved to a “suitable location,” Vice President Fuat Oktay said.

The artifacts belong to the Archeology Museum, but need to be moved due to urgent renovations in the old mine buildings, Oktay noted.

“The old mine buildings need renovations urgently,” Oktay said. “They don’t have the necessary conditions to house ancient artifacts, and pose a danger to these objects.”

Topkapı Palace used to be under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, but was transferred to the presidency on Sep. 6.

Oktay added that the Directorate of Surveying and Monuments, located in the old mine building, will also be moved to a location that the Ministry of Culture and Tourism will provide.
