The most popular show on Netflix Turkey in 2019 has been “Atiye” (The Gift) which was produced in Turkey and released only 4 days before the end of the year. Popular Turkish movie star Beren Saat is starring in “Atiye”, which tells the the story of a young and talented painter from Istanbul who embarks on a personal journey as she unearths universal secrets about Anatolian archaeological site Göbeklitepe and its link to her past.
The most popular popular movie was “Organize İşler: Sazan Sarmalı”, also produced in Turkey and the sequel to the 2005 production Magic Carpet Ride.
Like the prequel, the production stars veteran Kurdish comedian Yılmaz Erdoğan who’s known not only for his significant works in Turkish cinema like Vizontele, but also his experience in theater and live comedy.
Erdoğan stars along Kıvanç Tatlıtuğ, Turkish actor and model. Tatlıtuğ was also the male lead in the internationally-famed “Forbidden Love” that ran between 2008 and 2010.
Netflix Turkey to expand production in 2020
Netflix will be producing three new shows in Turkey in 2020, said the company’s Turkey and Central and Eastern Europe International Production Manager Michael Azzolino.
Azzolino noted that Netflix Turkey will be producing more episodes of Hakan: Muhafız, Aşk 101 (“Love 101”), and a documentary about the life of Ottoman Emperor Mehmed II, aka Mehmed the Conqueror.
Azzolino added that with 1,5 million users, Turkey is an important market with a lot of potential.
Netflix Turkey has two shows under its belt already with Hakan: Muhafız and Atiye, both among the five most popular shows on the platform in 2019.

The five most popular other shows on Netflix Turkey in 2019 are, in increasing popularity, Stranger Things 3, Hakan: Muhafız, The Witcher and La Casa del Papel, topped by Atiye.
