The internationally-renowned Turkish director Nuri Bilge Ceylan has received 2 million TL to help finance his latest film from a fund launched by the Ministry of Tourism and Culture to support the country's filmmakers.
Ceylan received the highest amount of any director selected. A total of 23,175,000 TL is being allotted for 30 projects, including those by other critically-acclaimed directors such as Özcan Alper and Reha Erdem. Erdem received 1,350,000 TL for his newest film while Alper was granted 900,000 TL for his latest, which is slated to star the popular German-Turkish actress Sibel Kekilli.
Nuri Bilge Ceylan, one of Turkey's most globally-respected directors, won the top prize at the Cannes Film Festival in 2014 with his film Winter Sleep. He has written, produced, and directed eight feature films, some of which he has also acted in himself.
Ceylan is known for his exceptional cinematography and challenging, lengthy films, which often feature scenes of dialogue that last for half an hour or longer.
