Detention warrants issued for 22 in probe into devastating İzmir quake

An İzmir prosecutor has issued detention warrants for some 22 people in the investigation into the devastating Oct. 30, 2020 earthquake that killed 117 people.

An İzmir prosecutor has issued detention warrants for 22 people in the investigation into the Oct. 30 earthquake that struck the city, killing 117 people. 

The earthquake measured a 7.0 on the Richter scale and caused mass destruction across the city, with many of the collapsed buildings turning out to have been detected as unsafe beforehand.

In addition, the prosecutor's office petitioned investigations into 17 public servants in connection to the earthquake.

Analysis of construction materials from the rubble by Dokuz Eylül University academics revealed that there had been designing mistakes in the construction.
