PodcastCourt finds no objection to police breaking arm of pro-Kurdish deputy
A court in the southeastern province of Batman ruled that a police intervention that resulted in pro-Kurdish People's Democratic Party (HDP) deputy Feleknas Uca's arm being broken was 'justifiable'. The Batman court rejected Uca's lawyers objections and found that the police intervention to stop the conduct of a press statement was within legal grounds.

A court in the southeastern province of Batman ruled that a police intervention that resulted in pro-Kurdish People's Democratic Party (HDP) deputy Feleknas Uca's arm being broken was 'justifiable'.
In May of this year, Uca attempted to conduct a press statement in Batman, though the provincial governorate declined to allow the statement to take place, and police intervened as a result, and in the ensuing scuffle Uca's left arm was broken.
Uca's lawyers filed a criminal complaint based on the grounds that the police intervention involved torture and cruel treatment and violated Uca's parliamentary immunity as she was taken into custody.
The Batman court rejected Uca's lawyers objections and found that the police intervention was within legal grounds. Uca's lawyer Reyhan Yalçındağ has applied to Turkey's Constitutional Court, and has said if the court rules against their favor they will take the case to the European Court of Human Rights.
