Snowfall paralyzes transportation in Black Sea, Central and Southeastern Turkey

Snowfall in the Southeastern and Black Sea regions of Turkey has blocked off access to a total of over 600 residential areas. Snowfall has exceeded 1,5 meters at high altitudes in the Black Sea region.

Nearly 600 residential areas are closed off due to heavy snowfall in the southeastern cities of Erzurum, Dersim and Erzincan.

While Eruzurum received the first snowfall on Sunday, Dersim has been snowy for four days and the height of the snow on the ground has surpassed one meter.

Erzincan has been under snowfall for three days and transportation to 200 villages is impossible. The city administration has 19 squads working on the roads.

A white Black Sea region

The Eastern Black Sea cities of Giresun, Rize and Trabzon have been receiving snowfall at high altitudes since the weekend.

Giresun has received snowfall of 1,5 meters and 78 village roads have been blocked by the accumulation.

Safranbolu in the Black Sea region is part of the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage list.
