A wounded cat rescued from the rubble of the 6.8-magnitude by the Antalya Fire Department was transported to the Mediterranean city to become Antalya Municipality’s cat.
The cat was rescued after one and a half hours’ search, noted Antalya Fire Marshal Hidayet Yıldırım.
“The cat slept with us, ate what we ate. We shared our food and our ride. After a 12-hour car trip, we’ve brought it to Antalya,” Yıldırım said.
Antalya Mayor Muhittin Böcek named the cat “Toros” after the city’s picturesque mountain range, adding that the cat was now their responsibility.
The cat was taken to the animal hospital to get treated for contusions and Böcek noted they will take great care of Toros after the hospital treatment.
The mayor also presented the 40 returning members of the fire department with plaques.
