Evidence in Tahir Elçi murder case was covered up: Forensics worker

Slain Diyarbakır Bar Association head Tahir Elçi’s wife Türkan Elçi will serve as an intern lawyer in the case into his assassination, the first hearing of which will take place on Oct. 21 after more than five years.

Tahir Elçi, who was also a vocal human rights activist, was killed in broad daylight on Nov. 28, 2015, in the central Sur district of the southeastern province of Diyarbakır while making a public statement to draw attention to the damage done to the district’s historic sites, including the area surrounding the famous Four-Legged Minaret, during army operations.

Türkan Elçi had been studying law before her husband's murder, and finished her studies this year.

"You believe in the fight for law your whole life, you are inspired by your husband who believes in the law to study the subject, and the first hearing of your professional career as an intern lawyer is your husband's murder case," Elçi tweeted on Oct. 13.
