The production of automobiles in Turkey decreased by 9 percent between January and September of this year in comparison to same period during 2018, according to recent figures from the Automotive Industry Association (OSD).
Automobile imports dropped by 46.3 percent year-on-year from January to September, while exports waned by 7.9 percent. The total amount of exports for the period amounted $ 23 billion, as exports denominated in dollars declined by 4 percent while increasing by 2 percent.
Amid a serious period of economic difficulties in Turkey, the automotive industry, one of the most important in the country, has taken a hit. Consumption taxes added to cars were reduced in an incentive to stimulate the market, but those incentives ended in June, and automobile sales nosedived by 66 in July compared to same month in 2018.
