President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s advisor Ayhan Ogan has put citizens who voted for opposition Nation Alliance’s presidential candidate Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu in the eastern provinces in the same pot as members of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK).

In a scandalous tweet on May 23, Oğan listed several eastern provinces and compared the vote rate of the main opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP) in the 2018 parliamentary election in these provinces with the vote Kılıçdaroğlu garnered in the first round of the 2023 presidential election.

“Mr. Kılıçdaroğlu is a patriot, what has he got to do with PKK?” Ogan wrote in his tweet.

Several people reacted against Ogan’s tweet, with lawyer Ruşen Gültekin deeming it “frightening.”

“The information is correct, the interpretation is frightening. The region’s people demand that Kılıçdaroğlu become President and that justice prevail. PKK, on the other hand, is doing everything possible so that Kılıçdaroğlu does not come (to power). But, only if you see 7 million voters as terrorists, you can share such a calamitous post. It is really shivery,” Gültekin tweeted.
