Fenerbahçe reaches agreement with Mourinho, Turkish media report

Turkish football giant Fenerbahçe has reached an agreement with Portuguese manager Jose Mourinho, Turkish media outlets have reported. Fenerbahçe finished the Turkish Süper Lig second under İsmail Kartal behind Galatasaray despite collecting 99 points.

Turkish football giant Fenerbahçe has agreed with Jose Mourinho, Demirören News Agency reported on May 31.

Accordingly, the official signing will take place after a face-to-face meeting between the Portuguese manager and Fenerbahçe President Ali Koç at the weekend.

“Ali Koç signed a 2+1 year contract with Jose Mourinho. Acun Ilıcalı and Ali Koç are going to London. They will meet Jose Mourinho and watch the Champions League final together,” Turkish journalist Yağız Sabuncuoğlu reported.

Similarly, Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio announced the move, saying the contract is for two years.

The move came after Fenerbahçe presidential candidate Aziz Yıldırım, also the previous president of the club, vowed to bring Jose Mourinho in charge should he assume the seat. The election will take place on June 8-9.

Fenerbahçe finished the Turkish Süper Lig second under İsmail Kartal behind Galatasaray despite collecting 99 points. The Fenerbahçe football team became the league champion in 2014 for the last time.

Mourinho last coached the Italian club AS Roma until January 2024.
