Green Left Party lawmaker Cengiz Çandar has filed a complaint with the Radio and Television Supreme Council (RTÜK) against a TV series for its portrayal of jailed philanthropist Osman Kavala as a spy and terrorist.

Çandar said that the main character of the series "Metamorfoz" (Metamorphosis) aired on the state-run TRT’s digital platform “tabii” was intentionally made to look like Kavala. The MP said that the series damaged the philanthropist’s personal rights through elements of “insult,” “slander” and “violation of private life.”

Çandar demanded that sanctions be implemented against TRT over the violation of the Law No. 6112 on the Establishment of Radio and Television Enterprises and Their Media Services.

The controversial TV series, which references the Gezi Park protests in its trailer, tells the story of a leftist businessman who becomes a "capitalist" by taking over the company after the death of his father. The main character was tried to be physically depicted as Kavala himself. The first episode was released on May 7, whereas the second episode on July 13.
