A German woman on holiday in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus was diagnosed with coronavirus (COVID-19) on March 10, the first recorded case in the state.

Northern Cypriot authorities put the 65-year-old woman and 30 others who traveled with her under quarantine, Health Minister Ali Pilli said.

The Greek Cypriot government in the island’s south reported its first two confirmed cases of coronavirus on March 9, including a heart surgeon believed to have been infected on a recent trip to London.

More than 110,000 cases have been recorded worldwide, according to the Johns Hopkins University Center for Systems Science and Engineering, which has also counted 3,892 deaths – an increase of nearly 500 over the weekend. There have been 111,400 cases and more than 62,000 people have recovered, the centre has said.
