Turkey’s Interior Ministry has issued a circular announcing that the country will close its land borders with Greece and Bulgaria to passengers as a measure against the coronavirus outbreak.

The ministry said the ban gates will be still open for freight transportation.

The new restrictions will be effective from 12.01 a.m. local time on March 19 and apply to all nationalities.

Turkey confirmed its first death related to the coronavirus late on March 11, and reported a doubling of confirmed cases to 98, after it ramped up measures to combat the spread of the virus.
