"The number of people who have recovered in the last 24 hours is 2.25 times the number of patients who have been newly diagnosed [with the virus]. The total number of people who have recovered is 53,000. This number is close to 45 percent of the total cases so far. The number of patients in intensive care is decreasing. Let's pay heed to measures. The weather outside might change the picture," Health Minister Fahrettin Koca tweeted.

April 29, Koca said during a press conference that the outbreak has reached its peak in Turkey and the the rate of rise in cases has been seeing a downward trend.

Koca however also warned that a second wave of infections might arise if citizens do not abide by the measures and isolation rules.

Turkey's 31 provinces are currently under a three-day curfew which is set to end at midnight on May 3.

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan announced earlier in the week that weekend curfews will last until the end of Ramadan in late May.
