Turkey’s education union suggests schools remain closed until COVID-19 threat scientifically over

The decision to send children to schools after the measures imposed against the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic are lifted will reportedly be up to parents, as the country started to discuss when gradual normalization will be implemented.

The Education Ministry is expected to determine the reopening date of schools, which were closed on March 16, in line with the course of the pandemic.

While the date of gradual normalization is discussed to be after Eid al-Fitr, which ends on May 26, parents will decide on whether or not to send their children to school, pro-government Sabah reported.

According to the daily, schools will remain shut for kindergarten and elementary school students.

The reopening date will be determined in line with the suggestions of the provincial pandemic councils, which will evaluate the situation in each province, the daily said, adding that no exams will be applied in the one month that schools will remain open.

Education Minister Ziya Selçuk previously said that no student will fail class and those with low grades will pass the class responsible for improving their notes.
