The Radio and Television High Council (RTÜK) has fined TELE1 TV channel for broadcasting an advertisement celebrating the 25th year anniversary of daily Evrensel.
According to RTÜK, the relevant advertisement “praises, encourages terror and legitimizes terror organizations.”
The fine concerns a scene from the video in which a little girl is seen holding a piece of cloth whose colors are yellow, red and green.
The Turkish authorities associate these colors, which are traditional Kurdish colors, with the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK). The same colors are also used in the the flag of Iraq's Kurdistan Regional Government.
