Far-right Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) lawmaker İsmail Özdemir has threatened world-famous Turkish pianist Fazıl Say over his social media post in support of Istanbul Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu.

“Fazıl Say, be you, know how to crow well! Otherwise, while you are trying to raise your voice, that voice may reveal your other faults. You are an artist; stay with your art," Özdemir tweeted on Jan. 25.

As the heavy snowfall started to take effect in Istanbul, it was revealed that Mayor İmamoğlu had a one-hour long dinner with British Ambassador Dominick Chilcott at a restaurant on Jan. 24.

Pro-government media and figures have been since slamming İmamoğlu over the dinner.

The mayor, from the main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP), later said that the issue was being manipulated and that he had organized his meeting with the ambassador a long time ago.

Mocking the defamation campaign against İmamoğlu, Say tweeted on Jan. 25: "It is false news that our Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu was seen in a restaurant last night. The truth is that these four people danced and drank like crazy at the disco last night and had fun. The person who took the photo is [MHP leader] Devlet Bahçeli! Greetings from Salvador Dali too."

The renowned pianist also posted a photo of himself with İmamoğlu and his family.

After MHP MP Özdemir's post targeting him, Say took to Twitter once again, saying the country "will see good days" in the near future.

“We will see good days, we will turn our paradise country into one where people live happily and young people have hopes. Let no one doubt that. For the sake of this, we have to cross this very thin and very scarred line, even if it falters. Do not forget; together comes strength,” Say tweeted on Jan. 26.
