Residents of a neighborhood in Istanbul's Bağcılar district have beaten up a man accused of sexually abusing children.

Two children told their parents that they were sexually abused by a man living in the same neighborhood, prompting residents to investigate whether there were other kids subjected to abuse.

They then determined that other children were victims of the man, whose identity wasn't disclosed, and found him to beat him up on July 16.

The suspect was beaten by the children's parents and passersby and was saved by the police, as well as some residents, from getting lynched. He was subsequently detained.

Neighborhood resident Murat Ay said that they helped police nab the man after seeing that he was about to be lynched.

Ay also noted that the suspect is believed to be working at a hospital.
