An Omani tourist who was wandering on Istanbul's İstiklal Avenue on the last day of Eid al-Fitr was robbed by two individuals who told the man that they are police officers.
Halife Safara was walking around on May 15 when two individuals approached him as if they were police officers and checked his passport. They then convinced the tourist to enter a shop, where they hit him on the head with a gun and took his $10,000.
Safara notified police following the incident and the suspects are currently being sought, Demirören News Agency reported on May 17.
The tourist was seen in tears when he was asking the police to find the suspects, as well as his money.
Turkey was under a full lockdown between April 29 and May 17, with a curfew imposed on Turkish nationals. The tourists were exempt from the restrictions.
