Public personnel are being hired in exchange for money in the southeastern province of Diyarbakır, a former lawmaker from the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) has said, adding that the process has turned into a market.
Former Diyarbakır deputy Abdurrahman Kurt said that 80,000 Turkish Liras need to be paid in order to become an employee of the General Directorate of State Hydraulic Works (DSİ), while the amount is 22,000 liras for becoming an armed security guard at the airport.
"The selling of cadres in Diyarbakır has become so internalized that it's impossible to believe. Won't anyone say 'enough' to this?" Kurt said in a tweet on Dec. 8.
Kurt recently attended a speech by former Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu, who is carrying out efforts to found a new political party, in Diyarbakır.
