Istanbul office of the pro-Kurdish Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) was targeted in an armed attack on Jan. 15, the party said, adding that no one was hurt in the incident.

An unknown assailant fired his gun in the air seven times at around 3 p.m. in front of the building in Beyoğlu district, before heading to police headquarters to surrender.

Crime scene investigation teams were dispatched to the scene after the incident.

“Our party was subjected to similar attacks in the past through gangs. Our party, administrators and people are being tried to be intimidated,” HDP Istanbul branch said in a written statement.

“We will put our democratic reaction forward in the face of these fascist and gang-related attacks,” it added.

Later in the day, a statement was released from Istanbul Governor’s Office, which said that one person was detained and an investigation was launched into the incident.
