Wife of late Turkish premier Ecevit dies at age of 97

Rahşan Ecevit, wife of late Turkish Prime Minister Bülent Ecevit, died at the age of 97 at a hospital in the capital Ankara on Jan. 17. She was the founder and first leader of Turkey's Democratic Left Party (DSP).

RahşanEcevit, wife of late Turkish Prime Minister Bülent Ecevit, died atthe age of 97 at a hospital in the capital Ankara, state-run AnadoluAgency reported on Jan. 17.

Ecevit,who was also the founder of Democratic Left Party (DSP), died at theGülhane Training and Research Hospital, where she had been receivingtreatment since Dec. 26 last year.

Shedied at the intensive care unit of the hospital due to multiple organfailure at around 9.10 p.m. local time.

KemalKılıçdaroğlu, the head of Turkey's main opposition RepublicanPeople's Party (CHP), released a statement on his Twitter accountfollowing Ecevit's death.

“I am in sorrow for the loss of Rahşan Ecevit, My Chairman Bülent Ecevit's partner and an important name of our political history. Her life of faithfulness, loyalty and struggle will be an example for the future generations. I wish God's mercy on Ecevit and extend my condolences to her beloved ones,” Kılıçdaroğlu said.
