The assailant who targeted the HDP's Istanbul headquarters last week has been arrested on charges of “using unregistered firearm” and “disturbing the public peace.” The gunman told the authorities that he had come to Istanbul from the Central Anatolian province of Kayseri just to undertake this attack and had scouted the area for two days prior to the incident.

The assailant who targeted the Istanbul office of the pro-Kurdish Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) was arrested by a court order on Jan. 20, Mezopotamya news agency reported.
The charges against Mehmet Salih Hisar included “using unregistered firearm” and “disturbing the public peace.”
Hisar on Jan. 15 fired his gun in the air seven times at around 3 p.m. in front of the HDP building in the Beyoğlu district and then surrendered himself to the police headquarters located on the same street.
The HDP later announced that no one was hurt in the incident.
Hisar reportedly told the authorities that he had come to Istanbul from the Central Anatolian province of Kayseri just to commit this crime and had scouted the area for two days prior to the attack.
The suspect was being held at the Istanbul provincial police headquarters since his detention on Jan. 15.
