A municipal council member from the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) has shot the car of a councilor from the main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) in the Kargı district of the northern province of Çorum.
İbrahim Eken from the AKP and another ruling party councilor's son, İbrahim Akgül blocked the road as Sonay Ergül's vehicle was passing and shot it late on May 25.
"I barely survived," Ergül said, adding that he managed to escape from the scene, but they caught him once again and threw rocks at the car.
Ergül said that he notified the gendarmerie of the incident and a weapon suspected of being used in the incident was found in Eken's vehicle.
"Nearly a hundred cartridges were found in the scene. The people I complained about were released after their testimonies were taken," he said.
According to Ergül, the attack took place after an argument in the municipal council.
