Erdoğan's adviser appointed as a board member to state-owned Vakıfbank

Deputy minister of Youth and Sports Hamza Yerlikaya has been appointed as a board member at Turkey's third largest state-owned bank, Vakıfbank.

Yerlikaya, former Olympic wrestler, is also one of the senior advisers of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

Vakıfbank notified Yerlikaya's name to the Public Disclosure Platform (known by its Turkish acronym KAP).

Barış Yarkadaş, journalist and former deputy of the main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP), has slammed Yerlikaya's new appointment saying he will receive three different salaries due to his positions.

“The formula to save plunging economy has been found! It turns out former wrestler, deputy minister and presidential adviser Hamza Yerlikaya has been appointed as Vakıfbank board member. I guess gentlemen cannot live without getting three salaries. It is also a separate issue with which accumulation he is getting this job,” Yarkadaş tweeted.
