Ruling AKP asks for resignation of councillor over protest of increasing cost of living

An AKP municipal councillor who had previously called on God to take some years from her life and instead give them to President Erdoğan, has shown rebellion against her party by saying that her “patience is over” in the face of increasing cost of living. In response, the AKP management asked that she resign from her post.

A municipal councillor from the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) has resigned from her post after drawing the reaction of her party for protesting the unstoppable inflation and worsening economic crisis.

Hacer Çınar, an AKP municipal councillor from the western province of Bolu, recently said that even her “patience is over” with the current economic crisis.

“We have continued to stand with our state as it has dealt with this economic crisis. But now our patience is over,” she said in a widely shared speech last week.

After these comments, the AKP Bolu provincial organization requested that Çınar resign from her post, which the councillor abided by.

At a convention held in 2016, Çınar had called on God to take some years from her life and instead give them to President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan so that he would have more time to lead Turkey. In the face of these remarks, Erdoğan had cried at the convention.
